This is exactly how one should walk through the night. I'm not sure what I'd fear running into more, the fae folk or the coyotes.

It depends on what kind of Fae they are.

As for the coyotes (which actually exist, though they don't call to me psychically), I wouldn't really try to find the pack. Generally, coyotes will leave full-grown adult humans alone. But approaching the place where the pack lives might be construed as threatening, and I'd be seriously outnumbered.

I've had four sightings so far. In one case, the coyote moved along slowly, hiding in the shadows. In the second, the coyote was racing back to the pack. In the third, I ran into a pair coming out of my own neighborhood. I kept my distance, and they paid no attention to me, though they did look both ways before crossing the street--which some of the local teenagers haven't yet figured out. In the final case, a coyote walked out of a different neighborhood. I stared at him. He stared at me. After a while, he turned around and went back where he came from.

All of that said, there have been people who have reported being stalked when they were walking their dogs. In one case, a coyote hid in the bushes, jumped out, grabbed the dog right off the leash, and ran with it. Though they like to avoid humans, hunger will make them try to go after pets. Unfortunately, the local population is getting too big for the native smaller wildlife to be enough.
