I actually hadn't thought about the figurative connection you make, but I think it fits. It's certainly true that Adrian is overly sure he can buy anything.
It's certainly true that a lot of horror stories end up with an immoral MC getting what the person deserved. That's why Stephen King has described the horror genre as being fundamentally conservative.
I considered a different progression, one in which Adrian figured out at the last minute what was going on, became a vampire--and then got staked the moment he stepped out the door. (In that version, the woman outside is a vampire hunter.) But I like this version better.
Hm... yes the one you published is better. And what I said wasn’t meant as criticism. A writer is not a performing monkey, we don’t have to trick the reader by any cost. This is a good story. It’s entertaining and I enjoyed it.
Well done Bill, I liked this twist. Best part is when they order a Bloody Mary, haha!
I think it says something about where we put our money and what faith we have in it, only to figuratively have our blood sucked.

Thank you for the story! I liked it.🩶 I kinda figured it might end this way...😅

Thanks for your concern, but I didn't take that as criticism.
